Speakers are a unique art form, capable of transporting the listener into a Symphony Hall, a Jazz Club from the ‘60’s, the inside of an alien spacecraft, or even to the beaches of Normandy circa 1944. They are an art form in one very important manner in that, in their imperfections, as an electro/mechanical device they usually create obvious colorations, or in this instance sonic imperfections, described by technicians as ‘any change of the output signal, as compared to the input signal—and they do so more than their contemporary counterparts—amplifiers and the software players of today. This revelation from a loudspeaker designer, is significant—as it is an admission of imperfection—in an industry fraught with claims of perfection. The choice that the designer makes is first a scientific one in which a part or parts are changed, which ultimately transcends into an artistic one, in that he or she must ask, then answer the question, “Which imperfection, do I favor as a flaw? which one can I live with? Which is the least bothersome long term, which one, or one’s am I, and my customers, ultimately, most likely to forgive. Science has created a medium which allows us to transform binary code into pulses of energy, creating music or movies very efficiently these days-- thankfully, and therefore plays a significant role in the improvement of the sound we can get from our loudspeakers—yet, ultimately it’s the palate of colors (read acceptable flaws), from which the master speaker builder, choses, that gives us the most obvious creation of sound character—for good or bad. For years, as a listener, I labored with the variation in the illusions of Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis, Prince, George Strait, or even Bobby Goldsboro, singing in my home, wondering why some recordings sounded so good, while others, so dreadful, that actually I refused to enjoy their musical qualities—and I wondered at length how anyone could ‘fix’ this problem, in such a way as to allow us to enjoy all music that we want to listen to and enjoy. Illustrative of this point, one only needs to visit a nearby audio dealer, and take note of the fact that almost every store is playing one of a handful of select few pieces of music, which sound ‘good’, to understand the breadth of this issue. Someone in attendance at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show, opined, “Oh, for some (fill in the blank)”---meaning their favorite performer who lacked the quality of recording to make the ‘Play List’ for the Show. As bold as it may seem to make this comparison, the master violin craftsman Stradivarius created an amazing musical instrument several hundred years ago, which has never been recreated, and whose magic still remains a mystery, to the scientific community. To know this, is to know that all products, regardless of how similar they are in looks—There is no guarantee that they will perform with the same level of enjoyment. In creating the LSA Loudspeakers we decided, as a basic rule of thought, that ALL music is worhwhile, taste notwithstanding, and that to varying degrees, all recordings are, therefore, worth listening to, IF you like that particular music. So, armed with that philosophy, we designed a speaker which allows the listener to enjoy all music— Welcome to the world of LSA, where the software rules, rather than the hardware. We think that in doing this, we have increased listening enjoyment to music lovers dramatically. As an important disclosure, it is important to know that our speakers don’t leave out, or filter out the ‘bad’ parts of the recordings, in order to allow the music to sound pleasant. That would defeat the whole purpose—just as the Stradivarius is complete in its musical sound—so is the LSA. We simply have listened to recorded music for several decades, and using thousands of examples engineered our speakers to allow for enjoyment heretofore not available. Now, seriously, Are we as remarkable as Antonio Stradivarius, and his work? Of course not, but after a few hours with our product you might begin to think we are. We are also aware of the argument that “I can’t change my speakers to sound right with poor recordings”, is rampant in the industry—we just feel that after listening, you will be smitten with the sound. So, when you pull out that recording which was unlistenable previously, and you can now enjoy it—think about LSA, and our reason for being—your listening enjoyment. | Click image to enlarge![]() | ||
