Established 1996 Sounds of Music was started by John Jeffries in the autumn of 1996 in Chapel Place in Tunbridge Wells, the shop at the time had a main shop floor, an adjoining showroom/demonstration room and a demonstration room downstairs in the basement. This small start quickly began to grow and the Chapel Place shop was soon looking full with a wide range of stock as is typical of our policy to offer our customers as much choice as possible. In 1998 the Chapel Place shop had finally run out of space and a second larger premises (Lisanne House) was sought so that we could expand our demonstration facilities. Within Lisanne House we were able to add a further four demonstration rooms to the existing rooms in Chapel Place plus much needed storage. In 1999 we opened a stylish glass fronted new store next to Tower Bridge in London with the help of a new investor. This proved to be successful but in a different direction to our original sales policy with an emphasis on the growing custom installation market. In 2001 our London store was bought and renamed Sound Hound, we also moved from our showrooms at Lisanne House and after a long search for the right premises we moved into the top three floors of number 6 London Road, a five story Victorian building. This gave us three new demonstration rooms plus the storage and office space that we needed. Shortly after moving in to number 6 the basement and ground floor shop beneath us became available, so we jumped at the chance to occupy that too. This then gave us an extra demonstration room and a large ground floor showroom to show off all the lovely equipment from around the world. The next change Sounds of Music went through was in 2004 when the Assistant Manager at the time bought the now newly converted Chapel Place shop. It had been newly refurbished and had become the first Flagship Bose store as well as a dedicated Custom Installation specialist. This left us clear to pursue the dream of audio and video perfection. After 9 years of expansion it became clear that while we could always conduct a great demonstration and our service could satisfy the most challenging of clients it had become very difficult to work within the premises of Tunbridge Wells. So in the summer of 2005 we moved to our current location in Cross in Hand, a seven demonstration room purpose built unit in an old farm style Business Park over looking the rolling hills that stretch to the South Downs. Within this premises we are now able to demonstrate the widest range of high performance Home Entertainment products in the UK, now with parking at the door, better disabled access and more storage space to keep back up stock of the our vast range. To be continued…….?
