The 2805s are a major leap in matters loudness levels, bass depth, punch and big dynamics. That means an orchestra sounds more like an orchestra and you would probably enjoy your Wagner, Mahler, Bruckner and Turangalila more than with the old Quads.

Based upon a 50-year-old design that's been refined (but never bettered) across the years, the Quad ESL 2805 is now better than ever, with extra bracing to make it super-rigid. Essentially though, it retains the four large Mylar panels and radiating ring electrostatic design for unparalleled midband clarity and neutrality.

If you are an audiophile and you treat the Quads as the high-end components that they are, you will be suitably rewarded. Give 'em first rate interconnects, power cords and vibration control and you will have an attainable system that performs way out of its pricepoint, bested by few at any price with superb neutrality, resolution and unfatiguing musicality and a midrange on par with the best of the best.

The Quad 99 CDP2 is quite simply the best CD player I have ever heard and the fact that I can send digital satellite and PC signals to the 24bit 96khz CrystaL DAC inside it even better. It quite simply sounds stunning and is multi functional to boot.

Using the fixed output sockets, so bypassing the volume control, this is BY FAR the best CD player I have heard. Open, superbly transparent, real hear-into-tangibility, excellent soundstaging, beautifully judged tonal balance, great dynamics (micro and macro).
Audio Review
Quad 99 CDP2 player is so precise that you swear the singer is in the room with you, her tonsils and adenoids busily clicking and squeaking between breaths (I did say closely miked!). Indeed I couldn't think of a more cost-effective upgrade producing anything like the same step-change in the listening experience. This front end of the system really does make all the difference.
