Sounds of Music

About Sounds of Music

Sounds of Music is a guide to high-end hi-fi: the specialist companies that design amplifiers, loudspeakers, turntables, cartridges, digital sources and cables, and the ideas behind their equipment.

What you'll find here

Brand profiles cover each company's history, country of origin, founders, design philosophy and best-known products. Our articles explain the technology and practicalities of good sound in plain English: valves and transistors, electrostatic loudspeakers, turntable set-up, cartridges, cables and room acoustics.

How profiles are researched

Each brand profile is written from published sources: manufacturers' own histories, encyclopaedic references and established hi-fi publications. The main sources are listed at the foot of each profile. Model ranges change and companies change hands, so if you spot something out of date, please let us know.
