Clearaudio is a German analogue specialist based in Erlangen, founded in 1978 by Peter Suchy. It started with phono cartridges and grew into one of the most complete vinyl companies in the world, making turntables, tonearms, cartridges, phono stages and record-cleaning machines. Clearaudio has been a family firm throughout, and it builds its products in Germany. Its turntables range from affordable models such as the Concept to the enormous Statement, and many use the company's magnetic bearing technology, in which the platter is supported by opposing magnets to reduce friction and noise. Its tangential-tracking tonearms are another speciality. On the cartridge side, the Goldfinger has long been one of its flagships, alongside moving-magnet and moving-coil designs at many price points. Clearaudio's catalogue covers almost every part of a vinyl front end, which makes it a common reference point for anyone building or upgrading a record-playing system. Its products are found in vinyl systems at every level, from first turntables to statement installations.
