Transparent Audio is an American cable company based in Maine, founded by Jack and Karen Sumner. It is best known for "networked" cables: interconnects and speaker cables fitted with small boxes containing passive circuitry, which the company says controls the cable's electrical behaviour and reduces its influence on the sound. This approach has divided opinion over the years, but Transparent cables have been widely used in high-end systems and by reviewers. The range runs from the MusicLink and MusicWave cables to the Ultra and Reference lines and the flagship Opus. The company also makes power cords and power conditioners under the PowerIsolator name. Transparent builds its cables in its own facility in Maine and offers upgrade programmes that let owners move up the range. Its products are associated with a smooth, quiet and spacious presentation and are a regular sight at hi-fi shows, often in large reference systems. Its cables are widely distributed.
