Acapella Audio Arts is a German loudspeaker maker based in Duisburg, run by Hermann Winters and Alfred Rudolph. It is known for spectacular horn loudspeakers, many built around large spherical horns finished in gloss white, black or other colours, and for its ion tweeter, which produces high frequencies using a plasma of ionised air rather than a moving diaphragm. Because a plasma has almost no mass, it can respond extremely quickly, and Acapella's ion tweeter has become one of its signatures. Its speakers range from compact designs to enormous systems such as the Atlas and the Triolon, and many combine horn-loaded midrange with powered or passive bass sections. Acapella also makes valve amplification designed to match its high-efficiency speakers. Its systems are known for their scale, speed and dynamic realism, and they are a dramatic presence at hi-fi shows. The company has been making speakers for decades and remains one of the most distinctive names in the horn-speaker world.
