Audio Physic is a German loudspeaker company founded in the mid-1980s by Joachim Gerhard and based in Brilon in the Sauerland region. From the start its designs focused on accurate stereo imaging: narrow front baffles, steeply raked cabinets and careful control of cabinet resonance, so that the speakers themselves seem to disappear and leave a detailed three-dimensional soundstage. Many of its floorstanding models place woofers on the sides of the cabinet, facing each other or in opposition, which helps keep the front baffle narrow while still producing deep bass. Models such as the Virgo, Tempo, Scorpio and Avantera have been among its best known, and the company also makes compact standmounts. Joachim Gerhard later left to work on other projects, and Audio Physic has continued under its own team. Its speakers are generally described as precise and spacious, and they are often recommended for listeners who care about soundstage and imaging above all.
