Aloia is an Italian amplifier brand created by Bartolomeo Aloia, a designer often described as one of the founding figures of Italian high-end audio. Aloia's amplifiers are solid-state designs built around bipolar transistors, made in small numbers to a very high standard of construction, with distinctive model numbers such as the ST 13.01, ST 14.01 and ST 15.01 power amplifiers and matching preamplifiers. A notable feature of several models is a separate power supply using inductive (choke) filtering, which Aloia believed gave a cleaner, more stable supply to the amplifier circuits. Reviewers praised Aloia amplifiers for a natural, sweet and refined sound that some compared to the best valve designs, combined with the control and reliability of transistors. The brand is little known outside enthusiast circles, and its current activity is unclear. Aloia's products are a reminder that Italy's contribution to high-end audio extends well beyond its famous loudspeaker makers.
