Audio Synthesis is a British company that began trading in 1987, following Ben Duncan's "Supertuning CD" series in Hi-Fi News, with Duncan responsible for its designs. It is best known for two product lines. The Passion series are passive preamplifiers, which control volume and select sources without any active amplification, using high-quality stepped attenuators; the idea is to add as little as possible to the signal. The DAX series are digital-to-analogue converters, including the DAX Discrete, which was designed to avoid active analogue electronics in the signal path, and the later DAX Decade. Audio Synthesis products are often recommended as partners for each other, since the DAX's high output level suits a passive preamplifier. The company has a reputation for technically rigorous, minimalist designs, and its products are mainly found in the UK. Its current activity is unclear. Its passive preamplifiers in particular have a strong following among listeners who prefer the simplest possible signal path.

More about Audio Synthesis
Audio Synthesis For some years now Audio Synthesis has had a growing reputation for producing some of the most neutral and accurate products around. Their passive pre-amps have had considerable exposure and following during this time although they may not suit every system. It is truly a listening experience in the CD world. Accurate and neutral but also very musical and a joy to listen to.
This is the CD player to fit and forget.
