Ayon Audio is an Austrian maker of valve amplifiers and digital sources, founded and led by Gerhard Hirt. Ayon is known for valve electronics built around directly heated triodes and for very heavy, black aluminium casework with chrome accents. Its integrated amplifiers, such as the Spirit and Triton, its Crossfire power amplifiers and its preamplifiers have been widely reviewed, and the company also makes valve-output CD players and network players, such as the CD-5 and the S-10, which use valves in their analogue output stages. Ayon builds its products with its own transformers and point-to-point wiring, and it offers features such as auto-bias on several models. Its electronics are usually described as powerful for valve designs, open and natural, and they have a strong following in Europe and Asia. Ayon remains independent and builds its products in Austria. The company has steadily expanded its range from amplifiers into digital sources, and it is regarded as one of the most consistent valve specialists in Europe.
