Dunlavy Audio Labs was an American loudspeaker company based in Colorado Springs, founded in 1992 by John Dunlavy, an engineer with a long background in antennas and microwave engineering. Dunlavy had earlier co-founded Duntech in Australia. His speakers were built around time and phase accuracy: first-order crossovers, symmetrical driver arrangements with the tweeter between pairs of midrange units, and cabinets lined with thick felt to reduce diffraction. The tall, column-shaped SC-IV, SC-V and SC-VI floorstanders became the best-known models, praised for their accuracy, imaging and realistic scale, and they were used in some recording studios. Dunlavy was outspoken in arguing for measurable performance over audiophile fashion. The company closed in 2002, and its speakers remain respected on the second-hand market. John Dunlavy's emphasis on measurement and time-coherent design influenced many later speaker designers. His speakers were large and needed space and powerful amplification to perform at their best, but owners valued their realism, and they still have a dedicated following today.

More about Dunlavy Audio Labs
Dunlavy SC-IV The accuratly-documented performance of the SC-IV clearly establishes it as a credible new reference-standard loudspeaker for the entire audio community. The SC-IV incorporates several important and meaningful advances in technology, features and performance that cannot be found in any competitive loudspeakers, except for othewr models made by DAL. For example, the impulse response of the SC-IV ( a critical performance parameter that correlates very well with perceived realism) is equal to or better than that of most CD players and D/A Processors. Equally important, the design of the SC-IV was accomplised using measurement distances of 10 to 12 feet, rather than the usual 1 meter or 45 inches (distances too small to permit correlation with behavior at typical listening distances).
DAL loudspeaker measurments are closely supervised by a highly competent engineering staff with the product located within a large anechoic chamber, which is part of what is believed to be one of the best equipped and most advanced audio laboratories in the world. SC-IV is intended ti fill the void for an affordable full-range loudspeaker, capable of almost flawlessly emulating a live performance. Indeed, within a good listening environment, a pair of SC-IV monitors can recreate well-recorded music with a level of technical and musical precision that can only be described as an exceedingly close encounter with the original live performance.
