Gamut is a Danish high-end company that makes both electronics and loudspeakers. It first became known for solid-state power amplifiers and preamplifiers, such as the D200 power amplifier, which were praised for combining the control of transistors with the smoothness and texture usually associated with valves. The company later moved into loudspeakers, with the Phi and RS series and the flagship Zodiac. Gamut's speakers use curved cabinets made from layered real wood, shaped to reduce internal standing waves and cabinet resonance, and drive units chosen and modified to suit the company's designs. Gamut's approach is to design electronics and speakers that work as a matched system, though both are widely used on their own. Its products are built in Denmark, and like many Scandinavian high-end brands it favours clean, minimal styling and a natural, unexaggerated sound. Its amplifiers are frequently paired with its own loudspeakers at shows, but reviewers have also used Gamut electronics with many other speakers, which is a good sign of their flexibility.
