Gershman Acoustics is a Canadian loudspeaker company based in the Toronto area, founded and led by the designer Eli Gershman. Its speakers are known for unusual, tapered cabinet shapes, often with a stepped or pyramid-like profile, designed to reduce internal standing waves and to improve the speakers' time alignment. Models such as the Black Swan, the Avant Garde and the Grande Avant Garde have been the best known, alongside smaller designs such as the Sonogram. Gershman pays particular attention to how its speakers interact with the room, and its designs aim for smooth, extended bass and an open, three-dimensional soundstage. The company is relatively small and builds its speakers in Canada, and they have been reviewed in the North American hi-fi press over many years. Gershman's speakers are a good example of the inventive, design-led loudspeaker making that Canada has become known for. Its speakers are built to a high standard, with a range of real-wood and lacquer finishes, and they are sold through specialist dealers.
