Jamo is a Danish loudspeaker brand founded in 1968 by Preben Jacobsen and Julius Mortensen, whose surnames gave the company its name. Jamo grew into one of Europe's largest loudspeaker makers, known for well-designed, affordable speakers for hi-fi and home cinema in a clean Scandinavian style. Alongside its mainstream ranges, Jamo also produced ambitious high-end models, most famously the R 909, an open-baffle dipole speaker that won considerable praise for its natural, room-filling sound, and the Oriel and Concert series. Jamo was later acquired by Klipsch, which has continued the brand, particularly for affordable stereo and home-cinema speakers. Jamo's long history makes it one of the best-known names in Danish audio, and many of its classic models remain popular on the second-hand market. Its open-baffle R 909 in particular remains admired by enthusiasts for its spacious, natural sound, and it showed that a mainstream brand could build a genuinely high-end speaker. Jamo's simple, functional styling is typical of Danish design.
