Krell Industries is an American amplifier maker founded in Connecticut in 1980 by Dan and Rondi D'Agostino. Its first product, the KSA-100 class-A power amplifier, set the tone for what followed: big, heavily built solid-state amplifiers with large power supplies and the ability to drive almost any loudspeaker. Krell became one of the defining American high-end brands of the 1980s and 1990s, with models such as the KSA-50 and the FPB ("Full Power Balanced") series, and later the Evolution range. It also makes preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers, CD players and digital products, and it developed its own class-A biasing schemes intended to keep the output stage running cool without giving up class-A performance. Dan D'Agostino left the company in 2009 and went on to found his own brand. Krell has continued under new ownership, still building in Connecticut. Its products are known for authoritative bass, wide dynamic range and an emphasis on control.
