Magico is an American loudspeaker company based in California, founded by Alon Wolf in the mid-2000s. Wolf's background was in industrial design and engineering, and Magico's speakers reflect that: cabinets machined from aluminium, often internally braced and damped, instead of conventional wood or MDF boxes. The aim is an enclosure that adds as little of its own resonance to the sound as possible. Magico also develops its own drive units, using materials such as beryllium and carbon-fibre sandwich cones. Its first widely noticed model, the Mini, was a compact two-way that established the brand's reputation, and the Q series that followed introduced the all-aluminium construction. Later ranges include the S series, the M series and the more affordable A series, with flagship models costing well into six figures. Magico's sound is usually described as extremely clean, low in distortion and highly resolving, and its speakers frequently appear in reference systems and at major hi-fi shows.
