Musical Fidelity is a British electronics company founded in 1982 by Antony Michaelson, a clarinettist as well as an engineer. One of its earliest products, the A1 integrated amplifier, became a cult classic: a compact class-A design that ran famously hot, prized for its sweet, smooth sound. Musical Fidelity went on to build a wide range of amplifiers, CD players and DACs, including the cylindrical X-series of the late 1990s, the Nu-Vista models, which used miniature Nuvistor valves, and very powerful amplifiers such as the Kw series. It also made affordable digital products such as the V90-DAC. Michaelson sold the company in 2018 to the Austrian group behind Pro-Ject, and Musical Fidelity has continued under that ownership. Its products are known for strong performance for the price and a refined, musical sound. Its A1 in particular remains a sought-after classic on the second-hand market. Its products are widely available worldwide.
