Neat Acoustics is a British loudspeaker company based in County Durham, founded in 1989 by Bob Surgeoner, a musician as well as a designer. Its first speaker, the Petite, was a compact standmount that became known for its lively, engaging and musical sound, and it remained in the range through several versions. Neat's speakers are designed by ear as much as by measurement, with an emphasis on timing, rhythm and the feeling of a live performance. Many models use an isobaric bass arrangement, with two woofers working together inside the cabinet, which allows deep bass from a compact box. The range includes the tiny Iota, the Motive and Momentum series and the larger Ultimatum models. Neat remains an independent, small company that builds its speakers in the North East of England, and it has a loyal following among listeners who value musical involvement. Its speakers are known for compact size and big sound.
