ProAc, short for Professional Acoustics, is a British loudspeaker company founded by Stewart Tyler and based in Northamptonshire. Its first major success was the Tablette, a tiny standmount speaker that offered surprising scale and sweetness from a compact box, and it became one of the most popular small British speakers of the 1980s and beyond, still made in updated form. ProAc went on to build a wide range of standmount and floorstanding speakers, including the long-running Response series, the Studio series and the K series. ProAc speakers are known for a smooth, natural and musical sound, rich midrange and fine cabinet finishes, and several models use ribbon tweeters in their more expensive versions. The company remains independent and family-led, and its speakers are popular with listeners who prefer an engaging, easy-going presentation to an analytical one. ProAc speakers have been used in studios as well as homes, and the company's reputation for musicality has kept many older models in demand.
