PS Audio is an American company based in Boulder, Colorado, founded in 1973 by Paul McGowan and Stan Warren. Its first product was an affordable phono preamplifier, and the company went on to make amplifiers, preamplifiers and power products. After a period away, McGowan revived PS Audio in the late 1990s, and it has since become known for two things in particular. The first is power conditioning: its Power Plant regenerators rebuild the mains supply to give equipment a clean, stable voltage. The second is digital audio, notably the DirectStream DAC, which converts all incoming audio to a high-rate DSD stream in software that can be updated over time. The company also makes power amplifiers designed with Bascom H. King, integrated amplifiers and streaming products, and it has started making loudspeakers. PS Audio has a strong public presence through its own videos, forums and publications, and remains a family-run, privately owned business.
