TEAC is a Japanese electronics company founded in 1953, originally known for professional tape recorders and data storage equipment, and later for consumer hi-fi. Its open-reel and cassette decks were widely respected, and its professional products under the TASCAM name became standard in home and project studios. In hi-fi, TEAC developed the VRDS (Vibration-free Rigid Disc-clamping System) CD transport mechanism, which clamps the whole disc to reduce vibration and was used in some of the most respected CD players of the 1990s. TEAC's high-end sister brand, Esoteric, builds on this expertise with statement digital players and amplifiers. Today TEAC's Reference series includes compact DACs, network players, headphone amplifiers and integrated amplifiers such as the UD-505 and AI-503, which are known for their full-size performance in small, solidly built cases. TEAC's long experience in professional audio continues to shape its hi-fi products. Its products are widely available, and its Reference series has earned strong reviews for value and build quality.
