Theta Digital is an American company from California, co-founded by the designer Mike Moffat, that became one of the early leaders in high-end digital audio. Its DS Pro series of DACs in the late 1980s and 1990s were among the first to use custom digital filtering running on general-purpose digital signal processors, rather than off-the-shelf filter chips, and models such as the DS Pro Basic and the Generation V DAC were widely respected. Theta also made CD and disc transports such as the Data Basic, the Casablanca series of multichannel surround controllers for home cinema, and the Dreadnaught power amplifiers. Theta's products were known for a dynamic, detailed and musical sound and for modular designs that could be upgraded as formats changed. Moffat later co-founded Schiit Audio. Theta's current activity is unclear. Theta's pioneering use of custom digital filtering helped shape the direction of high-end digital audio, and its designs influenced many later DACs.
